Selection Decisions

The selection process consists of an application, an individual interview, a group process and two reference forms. Most communication will be via e-mail during the process. All applicants should check their e-mail regularly to ensure successful participation in the RA Selection process.

Individual Interview

Every applicant who submits an online application to 2100 Annapolis Hall before the 4:00pm, October 15, deadline and meets the minimum GPA requirement (2.5 for returning students) will be interviewed. During this 35-minute interview, candidates will be asked a variety of questions assessing their knowledge of the RA position and the skills and abilities they posses. Candidates will be interviewed on an individual basis by a two-person team consisting of a graduate or professional staff member and an RA. Candidates should be sure to read all application information thoroughly and be prepared to answer questions concerning their essays. Candidates will choose their interview date once they submit a copy of their RA application in person at 2100 Annapolis Hall.

Group Process

Candidates will be selected to participate in the group process based on their application and individual interview. The group will be given activities to complete during the allotted time. The process will be evaluated by a Resident Life team of graduate or professional staff members and RAs. Candidates will select the day and time they want to participate once they are notified by e-mail to sign-up at 2100 Annapolis Hall.

Reference Forms

Individuals who have the opportunity to work with you or observe your skills as they relate to the Resident Assistant position should complete the reference forms. Helpful references are individuals who understand the demands of a peer leadership position and can answer the questions on the form. Examples of potential references include: Resident Assistants, high school guidance counselors, teachers/professors, organization advisors, etc. References from close friends, roommates, parents, family friends or other peers are not preferred. Reference writers must use the form, as general letters of reference may not provide us with enough substance to adequately evaluate your candidacy.

You are required to submit two (2) references in order to complete your Resident Assistant application. Submitting more than two references will not help your candidacy. It is your responsibility to be sure that two reference forms have been submitted before 4pm by Monday, November 2, 2009. Candidates who do not submit two reference forms will not be considered for an RA position.

• Download Reference Form in either (PDF) or (WORD) format.

Both of your completed reference forms are due before 4pm on Monday, November 2, 2009 to:
