Changes section pages:1,2,3,4 This page: Special Housing Requests, Disabilities/Special Attention, Page 2: Changing Rooms, Types of Room Changes, Singles, Mid-year Room Changes Page 3: Room Selection, Units, Priority Numbers, Priority, Special Room Assignments Page 4: Cancellations, Releases, Release Approval, Release Disapproval, Status, Check-out, North Campus Breaks, South Campus Breaks, Inspections, Repairs Special Housing Requests You should let us know if you have specific housing preferences or requests. All such information, and any supporting documentation, should be submitted to reslife@umd.edu by June 30 for Fall semester (January 5 for Spring semester) or at www.resnet.umd.edu if in conjunction with a room change request.
Requests will be accommodated as time and space availability allows. Requests from new residents are considered in date order, based on when students’ housing requests were received. Requests from current residents are considered in priority number order. Disabilities/Special Attention in the Assigning Process We expect students to provide documentation of any disability, physical ability, or other mental, medical or other physical condition that should affect how and where they are assigned. All such documentation should be submitted to the Manager for Assignments and Public Inquiry by June 30 for Fall semester (January 5 for Spring semester) or upon the onset of any such condition. All such inquiries will be handled confidentially. Students who seek reasonable accommodations under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) are expected to register with the University’s Disability Support Services office (301-314-7682, 0126 Shoemaker Building), and should do so before contacting the Manager. Inquiries from new students should be made well before the start of a semester, since the number of housing options that can be made available will become more limited as time passes. Documentation provided by a student’s physician should indicate the student’s specific disability or other condition and a recommendation for the type or location of housing that would accommodate the disability or condition. Room and roommate assignments will be made by Resident Life, sometimes following consultation with the University’s Counseling Center, Disability Support Services, and Health Center offices. Available housing options may be limited by overall space availability. Single rooms (no roommate) are assigned solely to returning residence hall students through a seniority system; there is no access to single rooms for new-to-housing students, including for reasons of a medical condition or disability. Rooms in several residence halls were designed or have been modified to meet the needs of students with a range of physical disabilities or with limited or impaired mobility. Students living in these rooms can request evacuation assistance by fire/rescue personnel in the event of an emergency. With the exception of the older Leonardtown apartments, where residents control the temperature year round, air conditioning can be provided only during cooling seasons (usually first few weeks of Fall semester, last few weeks of Spring semester, and all summer).
