| In a year that Resident Life cannot guarantee that all interested and
eligible residents will be able to return to the residence halls, available spaces in the
residence halls will be allocated in the following order:
First
New Freshmen for a Fall semester who meet the University’s housing and admissions deadlines
Second
Returning Residents for a Fall semester for whom the previous Spring was their first or
second semester of enrollment at any college or university and at least their first semester
in University of Maryland, College Park residence halls (also includes returners from Study
Abroad, approved co-ops, student teaching and medical absences)
Third
Returning Residents for a Fall semester for whom the previous Spring was their third
or fourth semester of enrollment at any college or university and at least their first
semester in University of Maryland, College Park residence halls (also includes returners
from Study Abroad, approved co-ops, student teaching and medical absences)
Fourth
Students coming to the University of Maryland, College Park from other colleges and
universities for one year or one semester through a Study Abroad or approved exchange program
Fifth
Returning Residents for a Fall semester for whom the previous Spring was their fifth or sixth
semester of enrollment at any college or university and at least their first semester in
University of Maryland, College Park residence halls (also includes returners from Study Abroad,
approved co-ops, student teaching and medical absences)
Sixth
Returning Residents for a Fall semester for whom the previous Spring was their seventh or
more semester of enrollment at any college or university and at least their first semester
in University of Maryland, College Park residence halls (also includes returners from Study Abroad,
approved co-ops, student teaching and medical absences)
Seventh
Returning Residents for a Fall semester who drop from Commitment
groupings 2, 3, 5 and 6 above because they:
- are dismissed for academic reasons after Fall but are reenrolled and
in residence halls Spring, and/or are dismissed after Spring;
- withdraw from all classes (except for medical reasons and sudden
or unforseen circumstances) at any time during either semester but are re-registered,
in good standing and living in residence halls at March 1;
- drop below 11 credit hours (12 hours is minimum for full-time status) at
any point during Fall or Spring, except that a resident may drop as low as 8 credit
hours once during his/her undergraduate housing experience without housing penalty; or
- drop below 8 credit hours at any point after Schedule Adjustment ends in a semester
Eighth
Spring semester residents who miss Room Selection deadlines but ask to return to residence
halls for Fall semester and New Freshmen for Fall who sign up for housing and/or confirm
enrollment after their deadline
Ninth
Spring semester residents seeking housing and not in good financial standing as of March 20
or any date thereafter and all returning applicants, in the order their housing and
dining agreement requests are received, including:
- Spring residents who are not full-time undergraduate students but are living in
residence halls Spring and seeking Fall housing (e.g. part-time or special under graduate
students, graduate students, University College students),
- new Transfer students for Fall and, later, for the following Spring,
- students desiring to re-enter residence halls and/or the University after
a semester or more absence (excluding approved Study Abroad, co-ops, and student teaching
programs and medical absences), and
- students who live off campus Spring and/or Fall but want to live in residence
halls Fall and/or Spring
