With five residence halls surrounding its own classroom facility and a popular North Campus eatery, College Park Scholars offers its students the friendly, caring environment of a small liberal arts college and a special Scholars identity within the larger University of Maryland setting. College Park Scholars is distinguished by its opportunities for undergraduate research and service-learning and by the close interaction that is fostered between the students and individual faculty members. Students tap into the vision, knowledge and scholarship of some of Maryland’s best and brightest faculty members in the classroom and through experiential learning opportunities in and around the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Each fall, about 900 new undergraduates are enrolled in College Park Scholars. Nine in 10 of these new Scholars students choose to live in the Cambridge Community.

College Park Scholars Housing
College Park Scholars is a community of 12 living-learning programs for academically talented first- and second-year students. Admission to Scholars is by invitation, and is based on a review of all applications and materials submitted for undergraduate admission. The 12 programs are:

Residence Hall Accommodations
Living in the Cambridge Community is recommended, but not required. In this community, you will take classes with your Scholars peers who are from every discipline and background, study with these students in the comfort of your room or floor lounge, form life-long friendships, see your faculty members often since their offices are on the first floor of your building, attend a Scholars activity or two most weeks, and participate in team-oriented Scholars projects and events.

The Scholars residence halls – Bel Air, Cambridge , Centreville, Chestertown and Cumberland – are traditional “dormitory-style” buildings, with men and women living on opposite wings of the same floor. Most rooms are doubles, to be shared by two students. The few singles are taken by returning residents with seniority; the few triples and quads with two or three roommates are assigned to the last students who request housing. Once all Scholars students have been accommodated, remaining spaces on a floor are assigned to other first-year students. All rooms have phone, data and cable lines, one per student. Each wing has one or two large baths. Floor residents share a carpeted and air-conditioned lounge for studying, socializing, educational and cultural programs, and special activities organized by Scholars residents and Scholars and Resident Life staff.

The Scholars residence halls and the Cambridge Community Center offer academic, social and cultural facilities for every Scholars student, including:

  • wireless connections in some study rooms and all of Cambridge Community Center
  • faculty offices for each of the 12 programs
  • gallery space for exhibiting Scholars' works
  • seminar rooms, technology classrooms
  • Program libraries
  • meeting space for student groups such as Scholars Ambassadors, Scholars Program Circle and the Student Advisory Board
  • North Campus convenience store (salads, sandwiches, snacks, beverages, school supplies, etc.)

How to Request Housing
Simply submit the On-Campus Housing and Meals Agreement, either online at www.uga.umd.edu or by returning the document enclosed with your acceptance notification/Scholars invitation from the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Housing is guaranteed for all requests received by May 1. Rooms are assigned in the order that housing requests are received, so early submission of your housing request is advised.
