Summer Move-in Housing for summer session is in the Leonardtown apartment community. All student housing this summer is in apartments that are fully furnished, carpeted, air-conditioned and have a kitchen with all major appliances, living/dining area, and one or two bathrooms for four to six students. Students assigned to Leonardtown will claim keys at the Community Center, one block off U.S. Route One at Rossborough Drive, immediately behind Fraternity Row.

Contacting Your Roommate

If you would like to call your roommate before you arrive, you can find out your roommate's name and phone number by logging in using your directory id and password. It's natural to feel a little apprehensive about speaking with your roommate for the first time. So, before you call, make yourself two lists. One is a list of the questions you want to ask and things you want to discuss with your roommate. The other is a list of reminders to yourself about what you want to accomplish in the phone call — to be upbeat and positive, to be respectful of your roommate's right to his or her opinions, to expect some differences between you as people, to keep an open mind, etc. Your list of issues to talk about should include decorating your room and whether you will share items such as television or stereo. An expanded list might include leisure-time interests and your tastes in music, arts, sports, etc.

The most important goals of your conversations should be to establish good communication between your roommate and yourself, so that you have this base to build upon when move-in day arrives.

How Room Assignments Were Made

Students who submitted their Summer Housing Agreement by the April 7 priority deadline were randomly assigned a position on the list which determined the order in which rooms would be assigned. Students whose Agreements were received after April 7 had their names added to the list in the order their Agreements were received. We made every effort to honor specific roommate requests and to match roommates based on the questions asked on the Agreement. As all spaces have been assigned, no room changes can be made.

Housing Payment Due First Day of Classes

Your housing and telecommunication charges must be paid in full by the first day of classes, each session. An individual who is not in proper registration, financial or judicial standing after their first day of classes may be required to vacate his/her assigned space within 48 hours. Payments must be made to the Office of Bursar at room 1103, Lee Building or online at www.umd.edu/Bursar.

No Longer Need Your Room?

If your plans change and you will not be moving into the residence halls for Summer, you must request cancellation of services in writing to Resident Life at 1102 Annapolis Hall or e-mail at reslife@umd.edu. There are cancellation deadlines beginning April 30 and late cancellation fees of up to $400.81.
