Traffic and Parking Tips

University Police and Transportation Services staff will be on hand to ensure that traffic is kept moving and that you will be able to park and unload your belongings as close as possible to the front door of your residence hall (preferably for 5-15 minutes).

You do not need a permit to park in lots 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 9, 11, 15, 16, or 19 from August 25 thru August 28. Faculty/Staff lettered lots and meters are enforced as usual.

Move-in day can be hectic. To make everyone's move-in day a more pleasant experience, we will greatly appreciate your cooperation with all the instructions provided on this page.

Approaching Campus

Please enter the campus only by the route indicated for your building, please see the move in maps for locations and directions.

Please display your unloading permit (downloadable at the top of this page) on the dashboard inside your vehicle. Police officers will be watching for this permit in order to direct you more quickly to your residence hall.

Weekday rush hour traffic on the major roadways, Interstate 95, Route 1 and Route 193 (University Boulevard), will be heaviest from 7am to 9am and 4:30pm to 6pm.

Temporary Unloading Zones

University Police will help you park in the Unloading Zone closest to your residence hall.

It's best to have at least three persons in your party, so the driver can move your vehicle out of the Unloading Zone (preferably for 5-15 minutes) while the student is inside getting his/her room keys and a passenger stays with belongings at the curb. Parking attendants will "time" your arrival in the Unloading Zone and direct your driver to the closest all-day parking lot (free and usually no more than a 3- to 5-minute walk back to the residence hall).
