I want to live in SCC/CTY during the entire 2008-2009 lease year, but I will be away from campus in a University approved program for Spring, 2008.
Answer:
Before you leave the country, identify someone who you trust to act as your proxy. Students with family living in the local area will often choose a parent. If your family is out of state, you may want to select a fellow student. Just be sure to select carefully as you will have to abide by the decisions made by your proxy. Once you have selected a proxy, submit an online proxy form at least 2 business days prior to when you wish to sign a lease. When your proxy signs your lease, he/she will need your notorized Guarantee of Lease (completed by a person willing to be financially responsible for you like a parent), a $300 check/money order and a $25 check/money order. Make sure all of these is in your proxy’s possession before you leave the country. If you will have access to the internet while abroad, sign up for SCC’s listserv ( located on the right hand side), you’ll get emails about all the major leasing deadlines.
Complete an online application by February 29, 2008.

I want to live in SCC/CTY during the entire 2008-2009 lease year, but I will be away from campus in a University approved program for Summer, 2008.

The regular annual leasing process takes place in February/March of each year. All on-campus residents will receive notice by email of the application deadline. Watch for this notice and follow the instructions for the leasing process. For 2008-09, the deadline to apply is February 29, 2008.

I want to live in SCC/CTY during the Fall 2008, but I will be away from campus in a University approved program for Spring, 2008.
Answer:
We do not recommend that you sign a lease for the entire year if you only want to live in SCC or CTY during the fall semester. Instead, watch the bulletin boards to take over the fall semester for someone who is going to be away from campus during that time. If you decide that you must sign a lease anyway, you’ll be responsible for finding someone to take over your space when you leave at the end of fall semester. If you can’t find anyone, you’ll have to continue paying the rent until the end of your lease. For more instructions on signing a full year lease, go back a step and choose “Full Year 2008-09” as your option. For more information on re-leasing, go to www.southcampuscommons.com and click on “re-leasing process”.

I want to live in SCC/CTY during the Fall of 2008 and Spring of 2009.
Answer:
All Courtyards and SCC leases last 11.5 months and you should go back a step and select “I want to live in SCC/CTY during the entire 2008-2009 lease year” for more information. However, once you have a full lease, you can seek another eligible student to take over your lease for the summer (re-leasing). If you are unable to find a re-leasor, you will be obligated to pay the summer rent even if you do not live here. For more information on re-leasing, go to www.southcampuscommons.com and click on “re-leasing process”.

I want to live in SCC/CTY during the Summer 2009.
Answer:
As all SCC and Courtyards leases are for the full 11.5 month year, the only way to move into an apartment is to become another student’s “re-leasor”. Many residents either graduate or go home at the end of Spring semester. There are online bulletin boards at www.southcampuscommons.com where you can find a resident seeking a re-leasor. Once you have found your space, your re-leasor will need to start the process to cancel his/her lease and give the space to you.
