Official Fall 2008 Housing Confirmation

Check Your Room Assignment
Your assigned room, telephone number and your roommate’s name and contact information is posted and may be viewed by logging in with your Directory ID and password here. Please check this site frequently between now and move-in day, since this information may be changed:

  • if you’ve requested any type of room change for the coming semester (reassignment request, single room reassignment, or “pull-in;” new information available at the end of July),
  • if your roommate leaves through room change or cancellation (in which case you can submit “pull-in” or move requests at our web site), and
  • by Resident Life, through our consolidation policy (moving returning residents together as roommates, so more freshmen can have freshman roommates).

Not Assigned Yet - Don’t Worry!
The Department of Resident Life will continue to assign students throughout the days and weeks leading up to opening August 28 - September 2. If you are not assigned yet, don’t worry, we have enough room for all students guaranteed housing and you will be assigned soon. We will purposefully delay some of our final assignments in order to see if we cannot secure the best options available for new students. While every effort is being made to place students as soon as possible, we will continue to assign students daily as more openings occur due to late cancellations by returning residents and when new students inform us that they do not need residence hall housing at the University of Maryland. We update student assignments each day, so we encourage you to come back to the “Check Housing Status” page daily until you see that you’ve been assigned.

If you have concerns or questions, feel free to contact the Resident Life Assignments Office at reslife@umd.edu or call (301) 314-2100.

Petitions for Release from Housing
Having chosen a room and the year-long housing and dining Agreement, you do not have the option of unilaterally canceling the Agreement/housing simply by informing Resident Life. Instead, if you want early release from the Agreement you must petition Resident Life, provide supporting documentation of your reason, and await Resident Life’s approval or denial. Possible grounds for release include withdrawal from classes, transfer to another institution or other disenrollment, student teaching placement or co-op work in conjunction with a University sponsored accredited program, or Study Abroad. Petitions and supporting documentation must be submitted in writing – by email, fax or mail to Resident Life.

Petition Received By Release Fee If Approved
July 8 $0.00
July 9-22 $84.41
July 23-August 5 $168.81
August 6-19 $253.22
After August 19 & before check-in $337.63

Summer To-Do List

  • Remember, double and triple rooms have one land line and roommates
will share a voicemail box. Discuss with your roommate(s)
which of you will bring a touch-tone phone for your room.
  • Make sure your email and mailing addresses for University mail to you
    are up-to-date (www.testudo.umd.edu/apps/saddr)
  • Make sure your meningitis and other required immunization records
    are up-to-date (www.health.umd.edu/forms/meningitis.html)

Note: Any denial of recontracting, pending judicial/disciplinary action, withdrawal from all courses, financial ineligibility, academic dismissal or non-full time registered undergraduate student status for Spring 2008 or Fall 2008 will render this confirmation of assignment null and void.
