Leasing Update - 4/6/09

The initial phase of leasing at South Campus Commons and The Courtyards apartments for 2009-10 has been completed. We are in the process of establishing our waiting list for vacancies that will occur between now and the start of the lease year in August.

If you have already submitted a 2009-10 Leasing Application and wish to register for the waitlist, please go to https://www.resnet.umd.edu/MyDrl/Student/Cap/Waitlist.aspx to submit your preferences.

If you have NOT previously submitted a 2009-10 Leasing Application and wish to be placed on the waitlist, login using your Directory ID & Password; then select Commons/Courtyards Leasing Application.

What does it mean to be on the waitlist?

Currently, there is a ‘leasing freeze’ at both communities while we are compiling information, sorting cancellations, vacancies, etc. On or around April 20, we will begin to be able to lease any available spaces. If a current leaseholder wants to cancel his/her lease, that student can transfer the lease to an eligible applicant in Group A of the waitlist (see waitlist order below). If the leaseholder does not identify a student, the staff at Commons and Courtyards will assist and go to the waitlist and email the top students notifying them of the cancellation/vacancy. Spaces will be offered according to Leasing Numbers. Please check your email daily as you will have just one business day (24 hours) to respond.

Note: If you are interested in remaining on the waitlist, please make sure that you already have your original signed and notarized Guaranty of Lease form, and two checks ready. You will need these items in order to sign a lease.

How is the waitlist ordered?

The waitlist will be organized into stages of groups. The groups are prioritized and will be approved in the following steps:

  • Spring 2009 on-campus residents in the 3rd Housing Commitment Group who met the Feb. 19th priority application deadline (ordered by Leasing Number)
  • Spring 2009 on-campus residents in the 5th Housing Commitment Group who met the Feb. 19th priority application deadline (ordered by Leasing Number)
  • Spring 2009 on-campus residents in the 2nd Housing Commitment Group who met the Feb. 19th priority application deadline (ordered by Leasing Number)
  • Spring 2009 on-campus residents who did not meet the priority application deadline (order determined by Housing Commitment Group – 3rd, 5th, then 2nd)
  • Off-campus students who met the Feb. 19th priority application deadline (ordered by date/time of application submission)
  • Off-campus students who did not meet the Feb. 19th priority application deadline (ordered by date/time of application submission)

Initially, only students in group A will be in the approved eligible portion of the waitlist. Once all students in group A have been offered an opportunity to lease, group B will be added to the approved portion of the waitlist. Only after all students in a group have had an opportunity to lease will the next group be considered the “approved portion”. Please know that leases only become available due to the formal transfer of leases from a resident to another eligible and approved applicant. There are no guarantees of lease offers to any group.

I don’t currently live in the campus residence halls. Can I be pulled-in or offered a space from the waiting list?

Students who do not currently live in campus residence halls can only be considered for a space in Commons or Courtyards, if we are able to offer leases to all students in groups A-D on the waitlist.
