Short-Term Lodging in the
University of Maryland Residence Halls
The Department of Resident Life at the University of Maryland, College Park will accommodate a limited number of the University’s admitted graduate students for brief, temporary stays in an on-campus residence hall during August 2008. This Short-Term Stay Program is meant for students who travel to Maryland from other nations or from other states in the USA and who want a low-cost alternative to hotels while searching for more permanent housing for the 2008-2009 academic year or while waiting to move into such housing.
| Dates of Availability |
Short-Term Lodging is available from August 1 until August 22, 2008. Room supply is limited, and requests for accommodations will be considered on a first-come, first-serve and space-available basis. |
| Length of Stay |
Minimum one night stay; maximum three-night stay (to avoid overpayment). Additional nights’ lodging may be arranged, always on a first-come, first-served and space-available basis. |

| Cost |
The fee for Short-Term Lodging is $25.13 per night stay. Guest must prepay based on anticipated number of nights. Exact details on how to make this payment will be provided after notification of an available assignment. |
| Lodging Location |
All rooms are in Dorchester Hall, a traditional, “dormitory-style” coeducational residence hall centrally located on the campus, adjacent to the Stamp Student Union and University Health Center. There is convenient access to public transportation (bus, subway) to downtown Washington, DC, Reagan National Airport, and local shopping malls. Dorchester Hall has central air-conditioning. |
| Lodging Description |
Rooms are for occupancy by two or three persons of the same sex. Rooms for men and women are on separate floors or wings of the same building. Spouses, family members and traveling companions of the opposite sex will be accommodated on separate floors or wings. Young children will be accommodated in the same room as their parent/guardian.
Rooms are equipped for student sleep and study, and have twin bed, desk and chair, and dresser for each person. Unlike a hotel, Dorchester Hall rooms have no private baths, no linens on the beds, no carpeting, no telephones, and no televisions. Bathrooms are shared by up to 30 persons of the same sex. Rules include: No smoking, no cooking, no pets.
Guests are expected to provide their own sheets, blanket, towels, etc. and all personal effects such as alarm clock, radio, telephone calling cards, etc. |
| Check In/Claim Location |
Once a return email has been received indicating that a room is being held for you for the night of your planned arrival, you must claim this room by arriving at room 1102 in Annapolis Hall, along Regents Drive on the University of Maryland campus, prior to 4:00pm. Arrival/claim time is 8:30am-4:00pm EST, Mondays through Fridays. Payment in full must be made at the Office of the Bursar, Lee Building, after visiting Annapolis Hall and before keys will be issued for Dorchester Hall. Regrettably, no guarantee of accommodations can be made. |

| Searching for Housing |
Individuals who need to locate suitable housing near the campus at College Park may wish to investigate services and activities of the University of Maryland’s Off-Campus Housing Service (OCH)and/or the Graduate Gardens and Graduate Hills apartment communities. OCH offers an online database of hundreds of available property listings in the local and surrounding communities; visit OCH online, in person at room 1110 Stamp Student Union or by phone to 301.314.3645.
There is no on-campus housing specifically for University of Maryland graduate students. Single graduate students may apply to live in the predominantly undergraduate residence hall system, although priority is given by the Department of Resident Life to full-time undergraduate students. |
