Announcement

Prompted by recent concerns over an H1N1 flu outbreak and in response to the possibility that a pandemic flu could occur in our area, we want to remind you that the University of Maryland has a detailed plan for actions the campus and its students, faculty and staff must take in the event of such an emergency. Recent information regarding H1N1 has been posted by the University of Maryland at this web site.
If a pandemic flu occurs in our area, depending on the threat level locally, the University’s actions could range from raising awareness about the spread of the disease to suspending classes and closing the campus for a period of time.
Understanding that various actions can be taken depending on the level and severity of the situation, students and their family members and friends are encouraged to become familiar with the University’s plan. Please view the University’s Emergency Plan for Pandemic Flu.
If the University were to suspend classes and close the campus, students living in the residence halls, South Campus Commons, and The Courtyards would be expected to pack and leave campus within as little as 24-48 hours after the initial announcement. Students and their families should work out their personal plans well in advance; please click here for assistance with making your plans for an emergency closing.
For students living in the residence halls, the Department of Resident Life’s Emergency Preparedness plans addresses pandemic flu planning as well as other situations (e.g., tropical storm, hurricane, terrorist incident) which could lead to the suspension of classes and the closing of all residence and dining facilities.
