Denton Quad work completion has been delayed by the hurricane and recent rain, but the contractor is working with the University to complete the project as soon as possible. We appreciate your continued patience and hope you are enjoying some of the new features of the quad that are already complete.
In an effort to complete work by December 7, 2012, ahead of final exams, the contractor has agreed to work on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) from 9:00am to 6:00pm on November 17-18, November 24-25, and December 1-2, 2012.
If you have any questions or concerns about this project, please contact us at reslife@umd.edu or the North Campus Community Office at (301) 226-4830.

Thank you for your continued patience with the construction of the Denton Quad. We are nearing the end of the work, but before we get there we have an upcoming round of significant work, right next to Elkton Hall. We wanted to make sure you understood what was happening so you can plan your study locations accordingly.
- Beginning Friday, September 28th at 8am, the contractors will begin demolition of the concrete entryway on the quad side of Elkton Hall. This will be a noisy phase of work in the quad and includes jackhammering, concrete removal, and heavy equipment. This type of work will continue through Thursday October 4th.
- Beginning Friday, September 28th at 8am, the contractors have received permission from the fire marshal to block the quad side entry doors to Elkton to ensure your safety. The doors will not be accessible for up to 4 weeks. However, the two fire egress doors on the quad side of Elkton will remain available for fire emergencies so that you can exit that side of the building. The contractor must also maintain a fire lane between Elkton and 251 North at all times. You will continue to be able to enter and exit the street side doors of Elkton Hall.
- After the noisy demolition work, the contractors will be pouring concrete and preparing to put in pavers, so you can expect a week or two of busy truck traffic but the noise will dissipate as we get to the end of October.
- The contractor anticipates that the work will be mostly complete by the end of October with a few remaining clean-up items occurring in early November.
- Contractor work hours are 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday through Friday.
If you are looking for an alternative place to study during the day we encourage you to consider:
- Ellicott Diner - there are several small rooms in the back of the diner that are quieter and out of the general dining hall traffic. Don't forget your meal card in case you want a snack while you study.
- Clarice Smith Center for Performing Arts - across the street from Denton Hall; it has a library and also a student lounge that provide quiet study.
For your safety, it is important that you observe all posted signs and not enter work areas. Construction sites are monitored by University of Maryland's Department of Public Safety.
August 26th, 2012
All residents of Easton, Denton, & Elkton Halls will be affected by significant construction in the Denton Quad
- Beginning Monday, August 27th, the contractors will resume their work in the quad. The work will be loud, dusty, smelly and noisy at times, so please refer to the alternate study locations if the work is disruptive to you during the day.
- Contractor work hours are 8am-4:30pm
- Please be aware of your surroundings as the location of work, including laying of concrete and brick pavers, will move throughout quad and front of Denton Hall during the course of the next 6-8 weeks until the project is complete.
- A temporary ramp has been placed at the quad side of Elkton Hall.
For your safety, it is important that you observe all posted signs and not enter work areas. Construction sites are monitored by University of Maryland's Department of Public Safety.
If you have any questions or concerns about these projects, please contact us at reslife@umd.edu or the North Campus Community Office at (301) 226-4830.

Early Arrivals to the Denton Community (Elkton, Easton, Denton, Oakland):
The Denton Quad construction contractors are continuing to make progress on preparations for our large move-in days, Saturday, August 25th, and Sunday, August 26th. They will be working through the weekend of August 18th and August 19th, beginning at 7am, to lay concrete sidewalks and continue overall work in the quad.
For your safety, please make sure that you pay close attention to signs posted both within your building and outside as the conditions of entrances and sidewalks will change daily through the move in weekend and the first few weeks of school.
Currently, the Department of Environmental Safety and the Department of Residential Facilities are prohibiting access to the Denton Quad from the inside of Elkton, Denton, and Easton Halls. Please do not exit those doors for any reason until the signs are removed. Emergency exits are available on the street side of the buildings. Please see your Community Assistant at the Service Desk or your Resident Assistant if you have any questions.
We appreciate your on-going patience as we continue to make needed improvements to the Denton Community! If you have any questions, please call the North Campus Community Office at (3010 226-4830.
