| ::Getting Connected Quick
Checklist
Things you can do before moving on campus:
1. Make sure that you have an adequate Ethernet
card and that it is installed correctly. Refer here
for the appropriate Ethernet card to purchase and to find out
information on what exactly an Ethernet card is and what it does
2. Make sure that you have an RJ-45
twisted pair Ethernet cord (preferably under 25' long). An
Ethernet cable has 8 internal wires as opposed to a normal phone
cable which only has 2 or 4 internal wires.
3. For new and transfer students, ensure that you have a Directory ID user ID and password. You should have set
up your account at orientation. If you do not have a Directory ID, please contact OIT at 301.405.1400
Instructions for when you move on campus:

3. Open up your Web browser.
4. You should automatically be directed to the network registration
page but if not go to http://connect.umd.edu/.
5. Follow the instructions listed to register. Once the process
is finished, the Registration page will instruct you to reboot
your computer.

the Campus Network or how to connect to it, refer to our Frequently
