Housing and Dining Fees
2008-2009 and 2007-2008

Updated: February 7, 2008

Housing and dining fees for the 2008-2009 academic year will be determined in May 2008, by action of the University's Board of Regents. By late February 2008, the campus will decide on the fee requests it will submit to the Regents. The campus request is expected to involve an increase of about 3% in housing and dining fees, and will be reported at this page.

Fees for the 2007-2008 academic year are $8,854 (housing including data, phone and cable at $5,287 and Resident Dining Plan at $3,567). Residents of kitchen-equipped apartments in Leonardtown, South Hill and St. Mary’s Hall will pay $5,510 for housing for the year, plus the cost of a dining plan if any is selected. Housing fees include furnished room with telephone line offering unlimited local and campus calling, smoke alarm and sprinkler, 10Mbps data line per person, and cable television jack per person.

Fees per semester are $4,427 for residents of traditional halls and suites where a Dining Services-approved dining plan is required and $2,755 for residents of kitchen-equipped apartments (assuming no dining plan, although these residents are welcome to purchase a dining plan at their option, including the Apartment Plan).

Last year, the Board of Regents approved a 4.15% increase for each of Dining Services' dining plans.

Additionally, the Board of Regents last year approved a 2.9% housing increase; $150 more per year for rooms in traditional halls and suites and $156 more per year for rooms in apartments with kitchens. Resident Life and Residential Facilities also incorporated the telecommunication fee, which had been $140 per year, into the housing fee, meaning that a separate charge for basic phone services will no longer appear on student accounts.

As primary reasons for the $292 increase, housing and dining officials cited state-mandated salary and wage adjustments and increases in fringe benefits for employees, higher utilities and insurances costs, food cost increases, and the start of a several-year program for funding upgrades and "refreshes" to the networking infrastructure in residence halls.

Students who live in triple or quad rooms, which are shared by three or four students respectively, receive a 15% housing discount for each week that their rooms are fully assigned.
